From the Desk of Shanon Davis, CEO — American Alternative Assets
You know, I was sitting here this morning with my coffee, watching the markets open, and I just shook my head. The Fed came out yesterday and basically told everybody what we’ve been saying for months — inflation isn’t going anywhere. And honestly? I don’t think most people caught the real headline.
Everybody focused on the rate hold — 3.5% to 3.75%, no surprise there. But buried in the projections was the number that matters: they bumped their inflation forecast up to 2.7%. That’s up from 2.4%. And Chair Powell stood at that podium and said, quote, inflation isn’t coming down “as much as we’d hoped.” That’s Fed-speak for “we don’t have a plan.”
Meanwhile, the Iran situation is sending oil prices through the roof. The S&P dropped over a percent at the open this morning. The Nasdaq got hit even harder. And regular Americans — the folks saving for retirement, trying to stretch their dollars — they’re caught in the middle of all of it.
Here’s the thing that gets me. The Fed can’t cut rates because inflation is too hot. But if they don’t cut, the economy slows down and the stock market takes a hit. It’s a lose-lose, and your 401(k) is the one taking the punch.
Gold is sitting at $4,536 an ounce right now. It pulled back a little from yesterday’s highs, sure — but it’s still up over $1,500 in the last twelve months. That’s not speculation. That’s big money — central banks, institutional investors — moving into hard assets because they see what’s coming. And it’s not that hard to understand why.
Look, I talk to people every single day who are 5, 10 years from retirement, and they’re scared. They don’t know what to do. Their financial guy tells them to “stay the course” while their account balance drops and their grocery bill goes up. That’s not a strategy — that’s wishful thinking.
We put together a guide called The Bellwether Signal that lays out the early warning signs — the indicators that flash before a major market shift. It’s free. It takes a few minutes to read. And it might change how you think about protecting what you’ve worked your whole life to build.
