From the Desk of Shanon Davis, CEO — American Alternative Assets
You know what I was thinking about this morning while I poured my coffee? I was thinking about my dad. He worked 35 years, saved what he could, and retired thinking he’d be fine. Then 2008 happened. And I watched a guy who did everything right lose a third of his nest egg in six months. That’s what I think about every single time I see a morning like today.
Let me tell you what happened. Oil just blew past $100 a barrel — again. Iran rejected a US ceasefire proposal, Trump’s threatening to escalate strikes on their energy infrastructure, and the Strait of Hormuz — which handles about 20% of the world’s oil — is basically a tinderbox right now. The S&P 500 is down about 1% today and on pace for its worst month since March of last year. And here’s the kicker — new government data just confirmed that “tariff inflation” is now real. Export prices jumped 1.5%, more than double what the so-called experts predicted.
So we’ve got geopolitical chaos, a stock market that can’t find its footing, and inflation that the Fed can’t fix because they can’t cut rates when prices are rising. Three alarm bells ringing at the same time. And what’s gold doing? Sitting right near $4,450 an ounce, calm as can be. That’s not a coincidence.
Here’s what regular Americans need to understand — and it’s not that hard. When oil spikes, everything costs more. When stocks drop, your 401(k) takes a hit. When inflation rises, the money you do have buys less. If all three happen at once? That’s a triple squeeze on your retirement. And if you’re 55, 60, 65 years old and your savings are still sitting in the same assets that got hammered before, you need to ask yourself some hard questions.
Look, I’m not here to scare anybody. I’m here to educate. We put together a guide called The Bellweather Signal that breaks down the warning signs smart money watches — and what moves they make when everything lines up like it did today. It’s free. No strings attached.
